Aquabarrel’s solar powered pump kit is easy to install on any large rain water collection unit. Watch as Barry uses just a few tools to install the solar powered pump kit on a refurbished 275 gallon IBC, tote. This is a rough first cut of the video shot just before a thunderstorm later in the afternoon

ladder, leaver her stranded. She knows that a high wind reduces the air pressure on the roof, and that there is a danger for the pressure inside the house will blow the roof off. As the wind reaches a speed of 30m/s, she calls her Auntie Em for help. Calculate the force on the roof.

Looks like you need to use Bernoulli’s equation which is, er….

the sum of kinetic energy, pressure x volume and gravitational potential energy = constant.

so it must be something like

v^2/2 + p/d + gh = constant

v = velocity, p = pressure, d = density, g = gravitational acceleration, h = height.

velocity of air in the house is zero.
the pressures are unknown, but you only need the difference between inside the house and outside. If necessary assume 1 atmosphere for the air in the house.
height is approximately the same on the two surfaces of the roof so you can ignore this term.

That should be enough to solve it.

I bought 2 10" alpine type x subs and i’m wondering if a Lanzar HTG264 amplifier would a good amp to power these and i’m not sure if i need a capacitor or not……also what gauge wire on an amp kit should i get for best wound quality?

well that amp looks to have too small of power handling to work with those subs. odds are you will need 0/0 guage wiring a 200 amp alternator plus replacing alot of ground wires to make sure you get good power to the amp.

I have a power compact light, homemade Co2 generator and gravel I have been told that I can use miracle grow to help my plants but I am not sure if it would kill my fish. If you would like to make your own Co2 generator go to youtube

Not a good idea. Miracle Grow is made for terrestrial plants, so it has nitrate and phosphate to promote their growth. In an aquarium, these will promote not only plant growth, but algae growth.

There’s already a source for nitrate and phosphate in your tank. It’s your fish and their wastes. So all your plants really need is a source of things like iron and trace minerals. That’s what the aquatic fertilizers contain [check the labels]. And unless you have high lighting [more than 4-5 watts per gallon] or very demanding plants, you probably don’t absolutely need to have a CO2. If you don’t have it regulated correctly, it can kill your fish too. Remember, they need to breathe O2, and CO2 competes with it because water can only hold so much dissolved gasses. And plants only need the CO2 during the day when undergoing photosynthesis.

ADDED I should also mention that Miracle Grow as in the potting soil/garden soil has peat in it if I remember right, and that will lower the pH in the tank, and leach tannins making your water look brown.

I’ve been looking at all of the options for installing solar electricity systems online, and I’ve noticed that even the so-called review sites all seem to be part of a sales pitch….haven’t found a single, independent review of any of these products. Has anyone out there actually used any of these (Earth4Energy, HomemadeEnergy, etc.), and if so, how good are they?

If you have noticed that Earth4Energy is a scam (which it is), then you may be amused by my analysis of it at http://www.nlcpr.com/Deceptions6.html

If you want to build a wind turbine yourself (like a good engineer would), then get the following book:

Homebrew Wind Power
A HANDS-ON GUIDE TO HARNESSING THE WIND
Dan Bartmann & Dan Fink
Foreword by Mick Sagrillo

ISBN: 978-0-9819201-0-8
Published by Buckville Publications LLC

You can get this from www.otherpower.com This is a startlingly complete book and it has all the background theory you need too. They explain why, for example, you cant use a car alternator or something from a generator, and then proceed to build alternators from scratch. The references are compete — if you explore them and have the time to read, you will be right up there with the pioneers.

As for DIY solar, you can get the parts (panels, inverters, batteries, charge controllers) individually from many sources and make a system. It will not be cheap. You can’t make your own silicon cells, and probably aren’t up to designing the electronics, can’t make your own batteries etc.

My recommendation is this: Get the wind book. Look through the web sites of some of the better looking solar dealers, and if they seem to be "no bull" then e-mail them and tell them what you want. e.g. an entry level system, 80W panel, battery, inverter and charge controller so that you can make enough power for say, a small laptop. The good ones will be able to tell you what works together.

If you are thinking of a whole home solution, then you have a lot of reading to do. You need to switch to natural gas or propane (no electric heat, electric stove, electric hot water) and absolutely mininize the electrical load.

It would be nice to market a good DIY manual, but with a truthful title like "Generate power at home for more than you are paying now" or "With thirty thousand dollars in equipment, you too can avoid those monthly power bills" sales would be pathetic.

Have fun.

As for "real people" comment, when I see questions like this, I wonder if I am wasting my time because many of the questions are not real either. They are simply created by scammers so that they can add their scam replies and rate it best answer. I find this particilary galling when someone says, "this is for my science fair, and I am 14 years old" and all the answers are Earth4Energy scammers. Other times, I find my comments pasted on fake energy sites with links to pharmaceuticals. It is a mad world out there.

a small aircraft is headed due south with a speed of 57.8 m/s with respect to still air. then, for 9.00 x 10^2 seconds a wind blows the plane so that it moves in a drection 45.0 degrees west of south, enen though the plane continues to point due south. the plane travels 81.0 km with respect to the ground in this time. determine the velocity (magnitude and direction) of the wind with respect to the ground. Determine the directional angle is relative to due south.

The components of the wind which changed the direction of the plane to 45 degrees west of south is the resultant of the wind direction and the airplane heading.
According to your data, I understand the solution as follows:

The airplane had a y component = 180 degrees or heading south. There is no X component to the airplane during its flight before it was subject to the wind forces

The Velocity of the airplane while the wind blowing for 900 seconds = 81000/900 = 90 m/second in the direction of 45 degrees west of south. The y component of that movement is V cos theta + 57.8 cos 45 = 0
The x component is v sin theta + 57.8 sine 45 = 90 m/s
V cos theta = 41
V sin theta = 90 -40.5 = 49.5
Tan theta = 49.5/41 =1.22 . Theta =50.6
V cos 50.6 = 41, v = 41/0.63 =65 m/s at a direction 50.6 west of south.

I’m 17 years old and I record musicians in my house alot. However, my parents told me I have to pack up my stuff cause its taking up too much of the house. So I need to create my own studio…somewhere else.

I have a ford expedition, and not much equipment (i can pretty much all fit in the front and back seat, leaving the trunk completely empty.)

I had an idea that I could make some kind of outdoor tent, but some tarp on the ground, and set up my stuff to record.

however…that tent thing costs 1500 bucks. i cant afford that. so I need to think of something thats portable, protects from light wind and freak showers, and is under 250 bucks. it only needs to hold a small drum kit, a few amps, 5 people, and a laptop, and i dont need a power source. im willing to put the time into building something myself.

Any ideas welcomed! I just dont have a place to record.

Search for one of those outdoor used storage buildings. I have seen them advertised for under $100, in fact I have even seen where they will give it to you if you will come and take it away. These are the kinds of buildings that you see behind peoples houses, usually made of wood or aluminum. good luck.
