It has been pretty cold here, and I don’t drive my car very often right now- like once a week. Due to the temperature, the car’s battery does not have enough charge to start the powerplant after a week. I have seen solar battery maintainers on the internet, but can I make one myself? I have a small solar panel that is 1.83V and 500mA. I also have an old car cellphone charger with two wires. Is there any way I can use the solar panel connected to the charger, plugged into my DC port in the car?
To keep a fully charged battery fully charged, you’d need at least 300ma at 13 volts.

Not connected to the DC port in the car, and probably not with the cell phone charger. You need to convert your voltage to close to right, at least in between 11 and 14 volts, connected to the + and – terminals on the battery. It shouldn’t take much of a charge just to maintain the battery if there’s no load, not enough amperage will be better than nothing. It should at least keep your battery charged enough that it won’t freeze.

The solar panel you have is way too small to charge a car battery, even if you had several all wired up to give you 12V at 500mA it would take 1000 hours to recharge and average battery.
