Homemade Generator – Version 1.2 – 1500 Watts Power Load Extended Test

Pretty much the same as before, except its all mounted in the chassis, and I ran it for 20 minutes. This video was recorded after I let the battery die down a bit, just to see how the generator would handle the battery charging and loaded inverter at the same time. Same load on the inverter as before, 1530 watts.

    I got the spider …
I got the spider drive at a store called Princess Auto. Most any industrial store with drive line products would carry that.

@AlternativePowerMan: I just picked up a Smith-Warner +/-125A Ammeter for ~$18.00 from eBay, and saw many +/-150A units, too. I would puit it on wheels, and mount the inverter and at least one battery on the chassis- there seems to be sufficient room to do so.

BTW, Where did you get that Spider-drive that couples the two shafts together? Again, Nice Job!

    Its a Delco Remy …
Its a Delco Remy 24SI pad mount. It makes about 145 amps at 12VDC. From what I can tell it has no trouble reaching its full output. Someday I hope to have an ammeter installed.

I am pretty much finished with the project except I might:
    - try to use a larger muffler (or new quiet engine)
    - mount the inverter and a very large amp-hour battery in a second chassis
    - put the chassis(es) on wheels.

    Vote stars please! :-)

Very Nice! (sounds like a real 3600rpm AC generator) I like the pad-mount alternator and direct drive. What type is the alternator? Can it reach full output at 3600rpm? Can’t wait to see the whole package come together.

    I might try that!
